Save the Date: Community Scholarship Celebration on Saturday, February 6 at 10am

We are so excited to celebrate with you and your family tomorrow at 10am on Facebook Live! Together with the Astoria Houses Residents Association, the Save for College Community has come together to raise $1,000 for every Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third-Grader in Astoria Houses, including your child.
If you were not able to pick up your child’s free goodie bag this week, you can visit Urban Upbound at 4-21 Astoria Boulevard from Monday 2/8 to Friday 2/12, between the hours of 10am and 4pm. If these days and times do not work for you, call us at (833) 543 7473 and we will arrange an alternative.

The Celebration will feature the official announcement of the Astoria Houses Resident Association’s $1,000 Community Scholarship for your child, a read-along for K-3 students of Kamala Harris’ book Superheroes are Everywhere, musical acts, a college and career panel for parents and caregivers, special guests, raffle prizes, a student art show, and more!

Here’s how to participate and celebrate with us:
  • Save the Date: Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 10am
  • Pick up your goodie bag at the Urban Upbound office at 4-21 Astoria Boulevard. You can pick up your bag between 10am and 4pm from Monday 2/8 – Friday 2/12. If these days and times do not work for you, call us at (833) 543 7473 and we will arrange an alternative.
  • In their goodie bag, each student in the Save for College Program will receive:
    • A copy of Superheroes are Everywhere by Vice-President Kamala Harris for the read-along
    • One raffle ticket (winner to be announced live on February 6 – special prizes)
    • Art supplies for the “I am a Superhero” Art Show – includes crayons, paper, and arts and crafts supplies so your child can create artwork that represents their superpower.
  • Each child in the Save for College Program can receive one goodie bag.

The NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program provides families, schools, and communities with a way to work together to save for their children’s futures. It’s a scholarship and savings program designed to make college more accessible and achievable for all NYC public school students—regardless of their family’s income or immigration status. The Save for College Program is a tool that families, along with their schools and neighbors, can use and customize in the way that best fits into their lives and best supports their dreams for their children. NYC Kids RISE, a nonprofit organization, manages the Save for College Program in partnership with the NYC Department of Education and the City of New York.
