Virtual Workshop Series for District 75 Families: NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program

Dear Parents and Guardians in the Save for College Community,

Through a partnership with your child’s school, your child is one of 13,372 participating children across Western Queens. This means your child has received an NYC Scholarship with a $100 initial deposit from NYC Kids Rise.

The goal of the Save for College Program is to make sure that every NYC public school child has savings for their future, whether it is college, vocational training, or something else. It doesn’t matter where you come from or how much money you have in the bank.

This April, join NYC Kids RISE and your child’s school for a virtual workshop series designed especially for District 75 families:
Learn more and register for a workshop below:

General Information Session
Thursday, April 15 | 2:30pm – 3:15pm

In this 45-minute session, learn about NYC Kids RISE and the basics of the Save for College Program. We will discuss who is eligible, how the program works, and how you can earn more money for your child’s educational future by completing the Three Building Blocks. Throughout the session we will highlight information for families of students with disabilities that may affect how you participate in the program. RSVP here!

Choose the Right Account for Families of Students with Disabilities
Wednesday, April 28 | 2:30pm – 3:30pm

This 1-hour Choose the Right Account workshop has been updated with key information for families of students with disabilities. Experts from the New York State Comptroller’s Office will conduct a presentation about NY ABLE accounts, a type of savings program designed for people with disabilities and their families.

Then, NYC Kids RISE staff will share information about the two account options that can be connected to your child’s NYC Scholarship Account through the Save for College Program – the NY 529 Direct Plan and the Amalgamated Save for College Bank Account. We will discuss the requirements for opening each type of account and making your first deposit. You will be able to ask questions to understand which account will best fit your needs. RSVP here!

We will be joined by:

  • Grisel Davis, Senior Program Officer for NY ABLE at OSC
  • Jenna McClosky, Outreach Coordinator for NY ABLE at OSC
  • Arli Cornejal, Community Engagement Assistant, NYC Kids RISE
